About Jo-Ecolabel

WHAT IS THE JO-ECOLABEL?

JO-Ecolabel is the official national environmental label of Jordan, developed and governed by the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO). It serves as a trusted certification mark awarded to products that meet the JO-Ecolabel Criteria, which are based on life cycle assessment and aligned with international environmental labelling standards.

The program was developed with the support of GIZ through the Green Action in Enterprises (GAIN) project, drawing on international best practices and the guidance of the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN).

By choosing JO-Ecolabel certified products, consumers contribute to reducing environmental impact while supporting Jordanian manufacturers who invest in cleaner production.

OUR STORY

JO-Ecolabel emerged from Jordan's commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection. Recognizing the need for a national mechanism that promotes sustainable production and consumption, the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) established this voluntary labelling program with the support of GIZ through the Green Action in Enterprises (GAIN)project.

The program draws on international best practices and the principles of the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN), adapted to Jordan's environmental priorities and industrial context.

JO-Ecolabel empowers consumers to make informed, environmentally responsible purchasing decisions and motivates manufacturers to adopt cleaner and more sustainable production practices.

Consumers trust government-backed labels:
While 95% of Jordanians rate product quality as the top purchasing factor, only 9% say sustainability is the decisive factor today. The JO-Ecolabel bridges this gap by linking quality with environmental performance.
